Engi Patisserie, Mont Kiara

Engi Patisserie is a modern Japanese patisserie cafe with European pastries and delicate cakes that are almost too beautiful to eat. The cafe’s new location in Mont Kiara is inconspicuous and primarily caters to the workers in the plaza and nearby residents.

Ambience & Amenities

Engi Patisserie is an uncluttered space with about ten tables. The colour scheme is very clean with neutral colours and light wood accents. There is no toilet in the cafe. Exit and turn left to get to the nearest facilities inside Block E, just past the escalators.

Engi Patisserie’s menu is one page of drinks. Although it’s not listed, they have non-dairy milk substitutes for their coffee. Unlike the Cheras location, the Mont Kiara cafe doesn’t serve any hot dishes yet. There are just slices of cakes and on-the-go snacks in the chilled cabinets.

Stocks are limited, and Engi Patisserie isn’t equipped to bake more on-site, so once something is gone, it’s gone. The cafe also has a breakfast set with a small snack and a coffee for RM11.90, perfect if you work in the area.

We got a Chocolate Banana Tart (RM18). Tart crusts are usually dry and shatter to pieces when pierced with a fork, but the banana helped with moistness. The overall texture was like a cake, and each flavour shone through. The Custard Bomboloni (RM8) was covered in dissolved sugar, so it was too messy to eat with my hands. The custard was not too sweet but unevenly distributed in the middle. I would have liked the doughnut to be a little softer. It did kind of taste like it was fried last night, but preserved well.

We ordered a Long Black (RM9) and a Peppermint Dirty Matcha (RM15) to drink. I like peppermint, but mixing it with matcha was not a pleasant combination. The drink wasn’t sweet, so it tasted too much like toothpaste.

Saturday Worthy?

I’m glad we tried this place, but I can’t see myself choosing Engi Patisserie over any of the other cafes in Mont Kiara with a better vibe or selection like Kiara Cakes or Lisette’s. Engi Patisserie is definitely for the workers of Plaza Mont Kiara. The cafe’s operating hours and location are not suited for weekenders making a special drive to try this place out.

Price for 2 Pax: RM55.00

Japanese Chocolate Banana Tart: RM18.00
Custard Bomboloni: RM8.00
Peppermint Dirty Matcha: RM15.00
Long Black: RM9.00
10% Service: RM5.00
