Three Years Old Cafe in Bukit Bintang is such a millennial that it lies about its age. Now five years old (and counting!), this daytime brunch spot has endured despite being surrounded by similar cafes offering identical food.
Ambience & Amenities
The ground floor at Three Years Old Cafe has only about five tables and fills up quickly. The restaurant has more seating upstairs in a lofty space filled with rustic wood. The cafe’s front patio is more popular than the other restaurants on the same street. The side patio on Lorong Sin Chew Kee has the worst ambience. It’s next to the toilets and a water feature that looks like a breeding ground for bugs.

The toilets are located outside the cafe on the small side patio. When you exit out of the glass back door, the washroom is directly ahead. There’s also a shortcut door to the kitchen at the base of the stairs (handy if you’re dining upstairs – turn right once you’re outside). The washroom has two stalls with sitting toilets and a communal sink.
Menu at Three Years Old Cafe
Three Years Old’s menu offers classic daytime brunch fare similar to its neighbours on Jalan Sin Chew Kee. The cafe has a relatively streamlined menu with all-day breakfast, sandwiches and pasta. The cabinet also contains slices of cake and sweet pastries.

Food at Three Years Old Cafe

I ordered the Osmanthus Earl Grey Peach Tea (RM14). It was a small glass for the price. Despite the fancy name, it wasn’t anything special. It just tasted like ordinary peach tea.

The Moo Moo Beef Burger (RM38) was a hefty platter. The patty was shockingly pink on the inside. I enjoy a rare steak as much as the next person, but the beef was so pink that I feared an unpleasant bathroom visit might follow. It was not a well-constructed burger. The meat kept sliding around when handling it, so we ended up using a fork and knife to eat it. The patty was oddly dense and tightly packed, resulting in an unpleasant texture. Would not recommend.

At RM35 with no side dish, the Pulled Beef Focaccia feels overpriced. I would’ve appreciated even a basic side salad to add some freshness to an otherwise greasy sandwich. The bottom slice of focaccia was very oily, catching all the juices from the beef. The meat had good flavour and richness, but the highlight was the herby housemade focaccia.
Saturday Worthy?

After wanting to try this cafe for a long time, the experience was a bit of a letdown. I’ve eaten at all of Three Years Old’s neighbours: Breakfast Spot, Broom, and VCR (in Mont Kiara, which has the same menu). Out of the four cafes, I would pick Broom over this one. We won’t be returning to Three Years Old Cafe.
