Taman Tugu White Trail Hike

Posted on By The Perpetual Saturday No Comments on Taman Tugu White Trail Hike

The white trail at Taman Tugu is a 1.2km hike at the northern end of the park. This is a low-intensity hike with some gentle elevation, but most of the path is flat.

Walking paths in Kuala Lumpur

You must first walk part of the green trail and the yellow trail to get to the white trail. The quickest path is:

  1. Start at CP-01 from the main entrance (E1) and head to CP-02.
  2. Take the pink shortcut from CP-02 to CP-28.
  3. Head to CP-27 and take another pink shortcut to CP-26.
  4. Follow the green trail to CP-25.
  5. Get on the yellow trail to CP-24, then CP-21.
  6. Walk the long path to CP-20, past CP-19, to CP-14.

The entrance to the white trail is at CP-14 on the yellow trail, marked by a low fence and gate. You can technically begin the white path at CP-19, but this is the official trail exit, and you’d be doing the hike in reverse.

There’s a very shallow rivulet running across the path at the start, where stepping stones have been set for hikers to cross. The other small river crossings you’ll encounter on the white trail will have wooden planks as bridges.

After the river crossing, there is a long flat stretch between juvenile trees. Ignore the offshoot path on the left leading to a parking lot. This will one day serve as an alternate entrance to Taman Tugu, but for now, it’s just a locked gate.

The yellow arch marks the start of Taman Tugu’s Adopt-A-Plot garden. A twisting path takes visitors through a maze of adoptable patches. It’s a little bare right now with just a few corporate-sponsored young saplings. Until it becomes the lush garden it’s destined to be, this area serves as a rest spot with a swing set and three raised benches to admire the future trees.

The white trail continues at marker CP-16. It’s confusing since there are currently no signs in the garden pointing you to it, and the frustrating garden path forces you to walk among all the plots. I’m sure many give up and jump out of the garden at the first opportunity, which is a squat arch cut into the hedges on the right side of the maze. This passage is a shortcut to CP-17 and bypasses a significant portion of the white trail.

Here’s how to get to the next proper trail marker. If you are facing the plots from the benches, go to the back left corner of the garden. There is an open gate, and right outside, you’ll see the trail marker for CP-16.

The path after this point does a big loop around the eastern end of Taman Tugu. The most noteworthy thing on this stretch is a spot where the trees have grown across the path to create a neat-looking domed grove. There are a couple more river crossings, a rest stop with swings, and stairs before reaching CP-17.

After the CP-17 marker, the path travels up and behind the Adopt-A-Plot garden. From up here, you can get a higher view of the maze before all the new trees and growth come in. There’s another swing set and rest stop a little further ahead at CP-18 before the trail heads gently downwards.

Eventually, there will be old walls and a roofless structure next to the path – husks of the buildings that stood here in the past. The upward stairs signal the end of the white trail. You will be back at the fork at CP-19 that you passed on the way earlier. From here, turning left will take you on the fastest route back to the parking lot. If you want more exercise, turn right to begin the second half of the yellow trail.
