Scandinavian simplicity

Kopenhagen Coffee is a long-standing fixture of the Shoppes at Vista Kiara Condominum. This second-storey cafe aims to bring a slower, Scandinavian way of living through carefully crafted dishes to be enjoyed mindfully. Denmark may be cold, but Kopenhagen Coffee brings Danish warmth in its hospitality and in everything they serve.
Ambience & Amenities
Kopenhagen Coffee is a single room with minimalist decor. There are only six tables and a couch in the back. The strip of bar seats along the wall overlooks the Gardens International School, but there are only four spots in front of the windows.

There are no washrooms at Kopenhagen Coffee. Guests have to use the dingy toilets in the Vista Kiara Shoppes. Exit the cafe and go down the stairs, turning right at the bottom. Walk all the way to the end of the plaza (past Kofi by 77), and the washrooms are around the corner. There was no toilet paper in these public facilities, and the sink had a leaky pipe that spewed water all over the floor when I washed my hands.

Kopenhagen Coffee’s menu embodies the same Nordic simplicity of the brand. There are no flowery descriptions or artistic photos, just a list of ingredients on a stark white page. The majority of the dishes are some form of sandwich, or feature bread in some way. There’s also a fully customizable “build your own breakfast” menu where you can choose from roughly fifty different ingredients. Filtered water is free.
Food at Kopenhagen Coffee

The Slow Cooked Lamb Sandwich (RM32) is a hefty wrap packed with lots of ingredients like crunchy red cabbage for added texture. The dish was okay, but I think this would’ve benefited from a more absorbent bread. It was a greasy mess as I ate, with pools of orange oil soaking through the paper and dripping onto my plate.

The Rosenburg Roast Beef (RM35) is for those who like sweet and tangy flavours. The beef was hit or miss – sometimes the meat was tender and fall-apart, other times there was hard, unpleasant gristle. The striploin lacked seasoning, and the remoulade wasn’t interesting enough to carry the dish. Overall, I felt the taste fell short compared to the lamb sandwich.
Saturday Worthy?

Other denizens seem to love this place, but Kopenhagen Coffee is near the bottom of my list of places to eat. I don’t find the menu very interesting, and now that I’ve tasted the food, it was unremarkable. I’ll probably forget about this meal very quickly. The appeal is likely the quality coffee, which is wasted on a non-drinker like me.
