Coffeeboy Club, Petaling Jaya

Restaurants at JAM PJ

Coffeeboy Club brings together three big passions – food, coffee and music – into one hip lifestyle cafe. Coffeeboy Club is the culinary offshoot of their homegrown DJ and creative collective, Coffeeboy Records.

Ambience & Amenities

Coffeeboy Club is located in the front building of JAM PJ, formerly The Gasket Alley (and before that, an industrial warehouse). The cafe has a small, L-shaped interior dining room past the ordering counter, but most diners prefer to sit on the “patio” to be right in the middle of the action. The outer dining area has simple wooden deck furniture down the middle of JAM PJ’s alley with a speaker blasting tunes.

Single-room toilets are located down the corridor next to the restaurant, while another set of washrooms is available across the alley. The toilets on the opposite side were nicer than the ones next to the restaurant.

Menu at Coffeeboy Club

The Coffeeboy Club menu is pretty bread-heavy. There’s a wide variety of sandwiches, all-day breakfast, and burgers. Sourdough is the star, with frequent appearances throughout the menu. Not in the mood for dough? The handful of mains, salads and rice dishes should have something for everybody. The cafe provides a big bottle of free filtered water once you sit down.

Food at Coffeeboy Club

We both ordered the housemade sodas, CBC Ginger Soda (RM8) and So Fresh So Clean (RM14), but they were very basic and nothing special. With the ginger soda, the ginger syrup remained at the bottom despite my attempts to swirl the cup, leaving me with flavourless soda water for half the drink.

The Beefy Biff Burger (RM30) is deliciously good. The server mentioned a couple of times that I looked like I was “really enjoying” the food! The toppings are simple – just some cheese, caramelised onions and mayo – to let the beef be the star. The meat patty was well-seasoned and flavourful on its own. The smash technique creates a light crust on the exterior while keeping the centre incredibly juicy.

The Cheesesteak Sammich (RM32) isn’t as tasty as the burger, as it lacks the bold flavours. If you’re into cheesesteaks though, it’s not bad. The bread isn’t a traditional hoagie roll, but thick-cut sourdough instead. The double helping of cheddar strikes a good balance between meat and cheese. The beef is tender and easy to bite through.

Saturday Worthy?

I was impressed with Coffeeboy Club, considering its small space and simple setup. The burger is worth ordering again, though the menu has plenty of other tempting options.
