Strangers at 47, Petaling Jaya

Strangers at 47, Best Cafes in Petaling Jaya Selangor

Strangers at 47 is an award-winning cafe in PJ. Which award is anyone’s guess, but the food is yummy and the vibe is cosy. A popular place for couples and groups of buddies, there are no strangers at Strangers at 47 – just friends you haven’t met yet.

Ambience & Amenities

Strangers at 47 is a huge place. There are two interior dining areas separated by a wall, as well as two separate patio areas. The decor is industrial chic, with only some mural art on the bare concrete walls. Strangers at 47 is dog-friendly. The cafe has a resident pooch that usually hangs out on the patio.

The toilets are at the back of the restaurant. If you enter through the main door, go to the second dining room. The washrooms are down a corridor on your left at the back of the room. There were three small rooms with a toilet in each. A communal sink is at the end of the darkened hallway, stocked with soap but nothing to dry hands with.

Menu

Crepes, both sweet and savoury, are the speciality of Strangers at 47’s menu. If you want something more hefty, there are plenty of sandwiches, burgers and pasta options. The menu lists most of the cakes the cafe offers, but check the chiller inside to see if there are any specials. Filtered water is free. A server brought a jug of water shortly after we sat down.

Food

Strangers at 47 food review

The Matcha Strawberry (RM19) is much smaller than I expected. The drink came in a mason jar about the size of a peanut butter jar – one of those fancy organic peanut butters. It looked very pretty with mint leaves and crunchy strawberry puffs on top, but it was a brown mess once we stirred it. It tasted nice, but it was way overpriced.

The Kimchi Grilled Cheese (RM28) has a satisfying amount of cheese. The sourdough was soft and chewy in the middle but had a crusty outer edge that provided a nice crunch. Despite the hype about the homemade kimchi, I don’t think it was anything special. The only thing it added to the sandwich was a slightly sour note. The salad on the side consisted only of mixed lettuce and a tiny splash of balsamic vinegar.

The Buttermilk Chicken (RM22) crepe was much better value and more interesting in its flavours. The chicken was bite-sized pieces, deep fried to an extra crispy crunch, wrapped in the velvety crepe light enough to pull apart easily. The orange sauce tasted exactly like KFC Zinger sauce. Plenty of fresh vegetables kept this crepe from being too heavy and greasy. The buttermilk chicken crepe was delicious, and we couldn’t get enough of it.
