Kiara Cakes, Mont Kiara

Posted on By The Perpetual Saturday No Comments on Kiara Cakes, Mont Kiara

This place used to be great, but now the quality has gone way down

Cafes in mont kiara

Kiara Cakes is a small, under-the-radar bakery at the Vista Kiara Shoppes. They don’t boast about being a keto cafe, even though they may be the only one in Mont Kiara. The bakery has a wide selection of cakes in both keto-friendly and carb-loaded versions.

Ambience & Amenities

Kiara Cakes is a simple space with not much natural light. Tall shrubs block the view out of small windows on the side wall. The cafe tried to add pops of colour and freshness in the form of plants where they could. There is one squashy couch, ideal for long hang-out sessions.

There is no toilet in Kiara Cakes, and guests must use the public facilities in the Vista Kiara Shoppes. Exit the cafe and turn right down the corridor. The washrooms are at the end of the hall. The women’s had two stalls, one sitting toilet and one squatter. There was no toilet paper whatsoever, not even a dispenser for it. There was hand soap at the sink but no hand dryer or paper towels to dry off with.

Menu at Kiara Cakes

Kiara Cakes’ menu is more than just cakes, but it’s probably what most people will be ordering. All their cakes and some sweet and savoury pastries are on display when you first walk in. Don’t miss the cakes in the fridge next to the register.

Kiara Cakes also has a small food menu. There’s not much variety, just sandwiches and pasta, but the keto section is almost as long as the non-keto list. Look out for the keto cake options in their fridge, too. Free filtered water is available from the dispenser next to the cake chiller.

Not much to say about our drinks, a Green Tea Latte (RM13) and an Espresso (RM8). The espresso arrived in a weird format I’ve never seen before, with a mug of ice water on the side.

The Chocolate Mint Mousse Cake (RM15.50) was divine. A mint and a chocolate mousse layer wrap around a layer of chocolate cake. All three of them rest on a crumbly, cinnamony graham cracker base. The cake layer was so soft it barely needed chewing – it melted in our mouths. The mousse was airy and light but so rich it almost tasted like cheesecake.

Saturday Worthy?

The sweets and pastries at Kiara Cakes used to be miles ahead of the neighbouring cafes, KoFi by 77 and Copenhagen Coffee. My review of their mousse cake above back in 2023 shows that. I’ve revisited Kiara Cakes in 2025, and was the food quality was atrocious. I ordered a Lemon Raspberry cake for RM21 and the slice was tiny, dry and stale. There was a hard outer crust around the edge, and my fork couldn’t penetrate the dried-out puree layer on top. It tasted like the cake had been sitting there for close to a week. They still had the chocolate mint mousse cake on my revisit, I wonder if it would’ve tasted bad too? I’ll never know, as I’m going to avoid Kiara Cakes from now on.

Price for 2 Pax: RM36.50

Espresso: RM8.00
Green Tea Latte: RM13.00
