Googgle Man Char Kuey Teow @ SkyAvenue, Genting Highlands

Posted on By The Perpetual Saturday No Comments on Googgle Man Char Kuey Teow @ SkyAvenue, Genting Highlands

The most expensive char kuey teow from a food court you will ever eat.

Googgle Man is a taste of Penang on top of a mountain! This char kuey teow stall in Genting’s SkyAvenue serves hundreds of plates of the beloved fried noodle dish every day. Although it has an odd name that was likely supposed to boost its SEO, it’s unlikely that anyone would find this stall unless you were doing a deep dive on where to eat in Genting.

Googgle Man is inside Malaysian Food Street, the food court on level 4 of SkyAvenue at the opposite end of the Awana Skyway. Googgle Man’s stall is in the back left corner. Cutlery and napkins are self-serve at various stations around the large room.

There are only three items on Googgle Man’s menu: classic char kuey teow, char kuey teow mee and chicken wings. They don’t sell drinks – drinks are at the central beverage stalls. After ordering, we received a gadget that beeps when our food was ready so we could find a seat in the meantime. The wait time between ordering and getting our food was about ten minutes.

The obvious choice was the Penang Char Kuey Teow (RM23). Googgle Man’s stall has a pot of sambal at the counter where customers can help themselves. The sambal was so good that we used every last bit of it, so I highly recommend adding some to your plate. Most of the protein was Chinese sausage – there was only a small amount of cockles, and I swear there were only two tiny prawns in the whole thing. There was supposed to be sliced fish cake, but it blended in with the noodles. The deep-fried lard was a nice touch, but the whole plate could’ve used more colour and green onions.

The char kuey teow at Googgle Man is absolutely not worth RM23. We all know that a good plate of the Penang speciality can be as cheap as RM10. However, a meal in Genting Highlands is going to be extortionately expensive no matter where you eat. At least the taste of our char kuey teow was alright, and it was one of the cheaper options we could’ve had in the SkyAvenue Complex.
