Fin, Publika Shopping Gallery

Posted on By The Perpetual Saturday No Comments on Fin, Publika Shopping Gallery

Wholesome food at affordable prices

Fin started as a humble poke bowl pop-up during the worst time, the MCO. It worked hard, and today it’s a full-fledged restaurant bustling with diners. This Aussie-coded cafe uses super fresh and pesticide-free vegetables in its nutritious dishes. The menu items might look simple, but the flavours are far from boring.

Ambience & Amenities

Fin is a simple space with three rows of tiled tables. There is seating outside facing the street, but the small tables are only big enough for drinks or one plate of food.

The washroom is behind the curtain on the right side of the restaurant. There’s a sink behind the curtain if you only need to wash up. The room on the right has a toilet and an extra sink.

Menu at Fin

The Fin menu is a good choice for your waistline, featuring a variety of healthy ingredients and vegan/vegetarian options. There are rice bowls and hefty salads if you want to eat clean. For a little indulgence, there are tacos and quesadillas (although Fin likely makes the healthiest version you’ve ever had). There’s free filtered water in bottles on the shelf next to the washroom.

I expected the Pulled Beef Tacos (RM20) to be the tiny kind you get at other restaurants. You know, the ones on four-inch tortillas that are gone in two bites. Luckily, I was wrong, and these tacos were a decent size, but you might still want a side to fill you up. These tacos had loads of mango, sweet corn and tomato to bring a lot of freshness to the dish. The white sauce is a delectable, garlicky sour cream to bring everything together.

I don’t even like bahn mi sandwiches, but the Mister G’s Wrap (RM22) sounded too interesting to pass up. It came packed with vegetables, including purple cabbage (which the menu description didn’t list). The kitchen cooked the thick-cut slices of beef to medium rare. Unfortunately, I had several bites with tough sinews that I couldn’t bite through, and had to separate with my fingers. There’s not much cilantro flavour, which I don’t mind. I find that real bahn mi usually overdoes the cilantro.

Since neither of our meals came with a side, we got some Tempeh “Fries” (RM12). We got garlic aioli as a dipping sauce (the other option being chilli mayo). They didn’t have a crispiness like real fries, but they’re certainly a much healthier option. I ordered an Orange Chocolate (RM15) to drink, which had surprisingly strong orange flavours in the foam. We also ordered the Apple & Strawberry Cold-Pressed Juice (RM12), a bottled juice from the Jussu brand.

Fin kitchen and coffee review

It took us so long to visit Fin because I was convinced that it wouldn’t last long. Nothing ever lasts in that part of Publika, but Fin has been in business for five years now! I could go back to Fin next week. The food is delicious without being smothered in grease and fat. It’s also affordable – I can’t believe we got two meals, a side, and two drinks for the price we paid.

Price for 2 Pax: RM81.00

Pulled Beef Tacos: RM20.00
Mister G’s Wrap: RM22.00
Tempeh “Fries”: RM12.00
Orange + Chocolate: RM15.00
Apple & Strawberry Cold Pressed Juice: RM12.00
