Considering it’s one of Malaysia’s cherished national dishes, why is it so hard to find a decent plate of char kuey teow in KL? We learned of the char kuey teow at All Delicious Restaurant from another expat, who had high praise for it. I never seem to get enough char kuey teow in my life, so we headed to Desa Sri Hartamas at the first opportunity to try it.
How To Get to All Delicious Restaurant
You might be able to snag a parking space in the lots off the main road (Jalan 23/70A), or you can take your chances and try to park closer to the restaurant on Jalan 28/70A. I’ve seen people park on the sidewalk across from the hawker centre, but needless to say, it’s a tight squeeze and you might get boxed in.
If you’ve never walked around Sri Hartamas before, it can be a bit labyrinthine. If you’re on Jalan 23/70A, turn right after the Pelita Nasi Kandar. Walk down a couple of blocks past the Hartamas Business Hotel, and All Delicious Restaurant will be on your left.
All Delicious Restaurant is a hawker centre and all the stalls within are the “All Delicious” brand. The fried noodle stall is the last one down Jalan 28/70A, but there are also chicken rice and soup noodle stalls. Google lists the hours of operation as 6 am to 11 pm, but in the dead of the afternoon (around 3pm), I’ve seen the restaurant all closed up.
Menu at All Delicious Restaurant
The menu can be found on the outside of the stall or hanging from the ceiling just next to it. The hawker at the stall today did not speak a word of English, so hopefully, you know some Cantonese. I can glean from Google Translate that that the prices with smaller text in the bottom left corner refer to duck egg (鸭蛋) variations. The RM8 is for a small (小) plate of duck egg char kuey teow and RM9 is for a big (大) plate.
Food
We ordered two plates of the regular (non-duck) char kuey teow in the “big” size, which cost RM8 each. It certainly looked like legit char kuey teow with all the requisite ingredients. Much to my disappointment, the flavours were very bland. The noodles were very pale. When I took a bite without any cockle or prawn, these noodles didn’t taste like much of anything. The amount of food given satisfied our hunger, but we still had some room in our stomachs afterwards.
Saturday Worthy?
This is gonna have to be a no from me, which is a shame since Mont Kiara and Hartamas are a char kuey teow desert.
