A beautiful hillside cafe with a photo op to make all your friends jealous.
What makes Montana Del Cafe different from the hundreds of other cafes on the same street with a view of Mount Batur? Not much. It’s just more highly rated and has a floating hammock. If you like the idea of seeing the mountain but don’t like all the sweatiness and early wake-up times involved in a Mount Batur sunrise trek, pop into Montana Del Cafe for a relaxing coffee instead.
Ambience & Amenities
Montana Del Cafe is a huge location, sprawled across two levels. There is a small indoor portion right when you walk in. There are some great tables right outside, but they get full blast of the sun.
The deck extends quite a ways to the left, with more tables shaded by umbrellas or a proper roof. One downside of sitting under the shade is that it’s within shouting distance of wandering merchants. Peddlers selling random junk kept trying to push their wares onto us when we sat there since it was right next to the parking lot.
Montana Del Cafe has an additional dining area on the lower level. The primo seats are the ones at the edge of the marble floor. This area is shaded and will likely be occupied. If you sit further back, a support pillar might block your view.
The hammock Instagram spot is on the open balcony. Only one person is allowed on this thing, for obvious reasons. Even if you’re not afraid of heights, it can be a little nerve-racking climbing in! There will probably be a lot of people taking pictures out here but not sitting at any of the tables. We tried sitting right at the railing, but it was just way too hot and uncomfortable under the sun, even though it was only 10:45 a.m.
The toilets are on the bottom level in the back right corner. For such a large cafe, I was surprised at how small the washrooms were. There were only a couple of stalls in the women’s, but it was clean and had all the modern comforts.

Montana Del Cafe’s menu specialises in international cuisine with the occasion fusion dish. This cafe is popular for breakfast, but there are plenty of hearty lunch options. The drinks selection is largely non-alcoholic, but they have a couple varieties of Bintang beer. Water costs 20K for a bottle.
Food
The view was the main thing to drink in at Montana Del Cafe, so we kept it simple with Mango Juice (35K) and an Orange Lychee Tea (40K).
We ordered a plate of Truffle Fries (60K), which were fat and extra crispy. The truffle paste was smeared randomly across a few fries, so we had to spread it around ourselves. The buttery golden fries with the bold flavours of truffle, parmesan and basil leaves made for a tasty snack.
Saturday Worthy?
On the way to Montana Del Cafe, we passed by a lot of perfectly nice places. Most of the cafes on Penelokan Main Road are highly rated. You probably can’t go wrong if you pick somewhere with a vibe or menu that you like. The floating hammock is unique to Montana Del Cafe, though. It’s likely a big reason why everyone comes here and has so many positive reviews. If you want that picture, it has to be Montana Del Cafe.
