Pet-friendly and pork-friendly
Lax Lax has the distinction of being the first pet-friendly restaurant at 1 Utama Shopping Centre. Their non-halal fusion dishes feature pork in typically pork-free Malaysian comfort food. With alcohol on the menu, you can enjoy modern local fare with a refreshing tipple at the end of a long day.
Ambience & Amenities
Lax Lax is located in a strip of Asian restaurants outside 1 Utama’s old wing. There’s some patio seating where you can watch hungry shoppers stroll by. At night, the dazzling dangling lights above the street illuminate this space. It’s a little more dim and cosy inside the restaurant.
The toilet is outside the restaurant next door. Leave and turn left. The washrooms will be next to the escalators.
Menu at Lax Lax
With pork all over the menu, this is naughty nyonya food. Many well-loved Malaysian dishes have been porkified, like curry laksa or Lax Lax’s signature pork lard nasi lemak. The restaurant has set meal deals and a weekday lunch special, too.

Lax Lax goes the whole hog and serves alcohol, too. They have a daily happy hour that goes until 7:30 pm. Cocktails are buy 2 get 1 free all day. Filtered water is free, but you have to ask the server for it.
Food at Lax Lax
The Hokkien Udon (RM27) sounded good on the menu but was underwhelming. The fried pork lard gave bursts of delectable umami, but any bite without it was meh. The flavour became repetitive very quickly. I had to add almost all the accompanying sambal to make it remotely interesting. I grudgingly had to eat all of this since this was my order. Both of our meals came with miso soup and lettuce with minced pork.
The Pork Lard Nasi Lemak with Crispy Skin Siuyuk (RM32) was a much better dish. I can see why the restaurant continually advertises it. The amount of siuyuk was fair and balanced with everything else on the plate. Lax Lax makes this nasi lemak their own with papadams, pickled vegetables and an onsen egg instead of the usual accompaniments. The rice was fluffy and deliciously coconutty with salted pork lard chunks on top. There are lots of different flavours in this addictive nasi lemak, and we couldn’t stop eating it even though we were getting stuffed.
Saturday Worthy?
Lax Lax has some interesting and creative fusions, and I’m always looking for places to get my pork fix. The pork lard nasi lemak alone is worth coming back for. If we eat here again, we might just order two plates of it.
