FatFire needs to die in a big, fat fire.
FatFire KL is an “all-American diner” focusing specifically on Cajun cuisine from the Louisiana region. This kind of food is rare to find in KL and not something many Malaysians demand. FatFire is taking the chance anyway, and showing us that American food is more than just the burgers and milkshakes we know and love.
Ambience & Amenities
FatFire has a visually pleasing dining room with some personality. Murals of fiery-haired goddesses adorn the wall, and the mismatched cushions evoke the playful spirit of New Orleans. Guests can also sit outside on the patio to watch the comings and goings on LaLaport’s Gourmet Street.
The restaurant doesn’t have a toilet, but the public mall facilities are directly across the street. Walk to the other side of Gourmet Street and down the corridor.
Menu at FatFire
I have to hand it to FatFire – they chose the most interesting part of America as their food focus. The FatFire menu is not just your generic burgers and BLT sandwiches. There are distinctive dishes that you don’t see every day, such as waffle fries, Philly cheesesteaks, and jambalaya.

To relieve the Cajun heat, FatFire serves alcohol and a decent selection of cocktails. The restaurant will give you free filtered water, but they’ll be stingy. The server only brought us one glass for the two of us. It was tepid, and the server only refilled it after our meal.
Food at FatFire
The Honey Chipotle Crispy Chicken (RM40) was a total WTF moment. The menu described a fried chicken thigh glazed with honey chipotle. These were cheap-ass chicken fingers with a drizzle of honey chipotle that soaked into the breading. It was white meat too, not the juicy chicken thigh I was promised. RM40 for chicken tendies! I got ripped off big time.
At least the Shrimp Po’ Boys (RM32) resembles the New Orleans’ classic sandwich somewhat, but the bread is weird. Instead of French bread or even the ciabatta they advertised, FatFire used a weird rectangle bread with the mealy texture of a low-quality burger bun. It was also inexplicably perforated with a fork that didn’t do anything for its presentation. There were only four shrimps for this large sandwich, so many of our bites were bland mouthfuls of weird bread and lettuce. The shrimp was seasoned nicely and tasted okay, though.
We shared an Elderflower Cooler (RM17) to drink. We were disappointed in the small size, considering the cost. Turns out, it would’ve benefited from being in a bigger glass. Our faces puckered after a sip because the drink was far too sweet and concentrated. Once we got it down to half-full, we topped it off with water, which made it taste much better.
Saturday Worthy?
FatFire has decent reviews on Google, which is the only reason we took a chance on them instead of eating at our favourite place, Stammstitch. Either the past guests had low standards, or they left a good review in exchange for the free fries that the restaurant offers. I wanted to like this place since I love Cajun food, but our dinner was terrible. FatFire is just cheap bar food repackaged as upscale American cuisine with an expensive price tag.
