No gimmicky frills, just damn good coffee.

Craft Origin Cafe is an under-the-radar establishment where coffee is the star. Although they’ve been a cornerstone of KL’s coffee scene for years, their various social media profiles have just a handful of posts. Instead of spending hours creating aesthetic CoffeeToks, Craft Origin Cafe is winning coffee roasting awards and serving up unforgettable brews to TTDI residents.
Ambience & Amenities

Craft Origin Cafe has simple, clean decor. The most attention-grabbing object is the bright yellow shelf showing off the cafe’s certificates and barista awards. There’s a mishmash of seating: a high bar table, the central picnic benches, and a couple of couches in the alcove – not to mention a small outdoor patio.

The toilets are around the corner, to the right of the emergency exit. There were two stalls with everything provided. The small, discreet boxes on the shelves contained complementary pads for any ladies who received an unpleasant monthly visitor while out at brunch. Nice touch!
Menu at Craft Origin Cafe
Though they’re open until evening, the food menu at Craft Origin Cafe is geared towards breakfast and lunch. There are all-day breakfasts, rice bowls, pasta, baos and more. There’s free filtered water in bottles to the right of the counter.

Food at Craft Origin Cafe

The Pulled Beef Sandwich (RM26) had buttery sourdough, griddled to a perfect crisp. Seeing and tasting the bread made me regret not trying their grilled cheese sandwich. Lots of melty, gooey cheese smothers the fall-apart pulled beef. Though the textures were excellent, I think the sandwich could’ve used a bit more flavour.

There was no shortage of duck on the Smoked Duck Pesto Sandwich (RM26). It was easy to cut through the decently thick slices of fatty duck. The pesto was understated, not that forceful garlic punch you sometimes get. I’ve just realised that the toppings were completely different from what the menu listed. Instead of tomatoes and cashews, I got seaweed ribbons and garlic chips. For once, a welcome substitution.
Saturday Worthy?
I don’t know much about coffee, but even I noted how good my salted caramel latte tasted. The food was also unexpectedly good for a cafe that’s mainly focused on coffee. If you’re shopping at 1 Utama and sick of all the chain restaurants, try this homey cafe instead.
