Yeast, Sunway Pyramid Hotel

Posted on By The Perpetual Saturday No Comments on Yeast, Sunway Pyramid Hotel
Yeast bistro Sunway Pyramid Hotel, Restaurants in Sunway City

Yeast Boulangerie-Bistro brings a little bit of Paris to Kuala Lumpur. It captures the charm of the City of Light through French bistro cuisine and a sumptuous array of pastries. Building off of their successful Bangsar location, Yeast’s second location is in the lobby of a four-star hotel with a direct link from Sunway Pyramid Mall.

Ambience & Amenities

Yeast Bangsar review, Where to eat at Sunway Pyramid

Yeast at Sunway Pyramid Hotel looks less like a Parisian cafe and more like an American diner with checkerboard tile and bright red booths along one wall. The restaurant feels a little cramped with the low ceiling, so we opted to sit in the hotel area instead. The space across from Yeast in front of the red wall feels much better for lunch with friends. It’s great for people watching and brighter with a skylight overhead.

There is no toilet at the cafe, but guests can freely use the hotel facilities. There is a washroom to the right of the Haidilao Hot Pot restaurant not far away.

The menu at Yeast has a lot of breakfast options for those sick of the hotel breakfast buffet, but there’s also pasta, sandwiches and mains for meals later in the day. Check the cabinet for snack pastries like tarts, croissants, curry puffs and quiche. Unlike most other cafes, Yeast has a selection of bottled beers and wines by the glass. Filtered water is free, but it comes in small glasses that we had to refill constantly.

Food

The Pistachio Milkshake (RM26) is pricey but has a strong pistachio flavour. I believe the cafe uses pistachio ice cream from its menu, so the milkshake is very creamy and rich without being too thick to suck through the straw.

The Goat Cheese Panini (RM30) has many big slices of mushrooms to complement the cheese. The goat cheese is mild with a subtle sweet taste instead of the sharp and tangy variety. I found the panini bread had a bit of a mealy texture which I didn’t like. The overall flavour of the sandwich is on the earthy side, with a little bit of tartness from the piperade, a tomato, vegetable and pepper sauce. Both sandwiches came with a balsamic vinaigrette salad and very salty fries on the side. Garlic mayo and the usual ketchup were available for dipping, but we had to ask for it.

The Chicken Pesto Sandwich (RM28) was good enough but fell short of expectations. Mark had this exact sandwich at Yeast just a couple of weeks back when there must have been a different chef on duty. This time, there were less ingredients in all aspects – fewer olives, fewer sundried tomatoes, and less overall chicken. Even the pesto flavour was not as strong as I would have liked. It wasn’t a terrible sandwich. It was just much more glorious last time.

We finished with a Mini Mocha (RM5) and Mini Pear-Almond Tart (RM4.50). Both were not too sweet and had soft crusts that were easy to cut with our spoons. The pear tart was mostly pastry with only a small chunk of fruit in the middle. The mocha tart had a more satisfying crust-to-filling ratio.

Saturday Worthy?

Considering Yeast’s reputation, the food was not up to the standard I expected. However, I wasn’t completely let down by our dishes, and I’d be willing to try this place again. Yeast is a much more relaxing place to enjoy a meal without battling the crowds from the mall.
