Extraction, SS2 Petaling Jaya

Posted on By The Perpetual Saturday No Comments on Extraction, SS2 Petaling Jaya

A cafe for non-snobby coffee snobs.

Best Cafes in PJ

The theme of Extraction is simplicity. It doesn’t look like much from the outside (or the inside, for that matter), but the unpretentious comfort food and speciality coffee at Extraction belie its understated vibe.

Ambience & Amenities

Extraction’s look is clean and minimalist: white counters, white chairs and white tables. The only colour injection is one navy blue wall.

The toilets are at the back of the cafe. There were two small rooms for each gender, both with a sitting toilet and paper. The sink had soap and paper towels.

Menu at Extraction

The cafe is only open during the daytime, so it’s mostly brunch and lunch food on Extraction’s menu. There are rice bowls, pasta, and plenty of all-day breakfast options featuring the cafe’s homemade sourdough. There are dishes with pork so this cafe in non-halal. Extraction also sells its in-house made loaves and bags of speciality coffee beans near the cashier counter. Filtered water is free. The cafe brought us a bottle and glasses once we ordered.

Extraction SS2 Review PJ

The Grilled Cheese with Pulled Pork (RM28) is something I haven’t seen before. Though the layer of golden cheddar was thin, it was on the outer side of the bread and the inside, like a croque monsieur. The pulled pork was tender but could’ve used more seasoning. There was a ramekin of yellow mustard to complement the pork, but I felt the sharp flavour was distracting from the cheese’s saltiness.

The Ultimate Hambuga (RM30) had a juicy pork patty that dripped all over the plate once we bit into it. The housemade sourdough bun did a great job of soaking up the juices without getting soggy. The in-house BBQ sauce was the highlight and primary flavour, adding tangy, sweet, and peppery notes to the burger. To drink, we ordered a Filter Coffee (RM15) and a Muscovado Sugar Latte (RM17), a fancier-sounding iced latte.

Saturday Worthy?

SS2 Brunch Cafes

I don’t see us ever being in this area again, so we probably won’t have the chance to return. However, if SS2 is your local area, I can recommend this place. The menu has many creative dishes that are far more interesting than what you’d usually find at a cafe.

Price for 2 Pax: RM99.00

Grilled Cheese with Pulled Pork: RM28.00
Ultimate Hambuga: RM30.00
Muscovado Sugar Latte: RM17.00
Filter Coffee: RM15.00
10% Service: RM9.00
