Osteria Nights at Ra-Ft, Mont Kiara

Best Italian restaurants in Mont Kiara

Mont Kiara’s popular weekend brunch cafe has a nighttime alter ego. Osteria Nights at Ra-Ft Cafe runs from Wednesday through Sunday, starting at 5 pm. Dreaming of a getaway to the land of pizza but can’t find the time (or the money) for a flight? Ra-Ft’s Osteria Nights transports guests to Italy for the evening with a special menu focused on Italian cuisine.

Ra-Ft’s Osteria Night menu includes many exclusive items that aren’t on the regular menu, such as a charcuterie board, nine different pizzas, and an extravagant wagyu beef tagliata. Craving your favourite Ra-Ft dish but it’s Osteria Night? Don’t worry, many popular items from Ra-Ft’s regular menu, like the burgers and grill plates (mustard chicken, Tuscan salmon, fish & chips), are on the Osteria menu. Staying true to Italian cuisine, the Osteria Nights menu features plenty of pork dishes, alongside a selection of Italian beers and wines.

Thankfully, Osteria Nights at Ra-Ft includes free filtered water, with the same large bottle served to the table during the day.

Raft’s Arancini (RM25) is good value, considering you get four decently sized balls. These are the classic recipe with only seasoned risotto and mozzarella inside, topped with chunky marinara. Maybe I’m a cheese fiend, but I do feel like they could’ve included a bit more cheese.

The Classic Carbonara Fettuccine (RM39) is perfect for Italian cuisine lovers who are lactose-intolerant, like Mark. This carbonara is made in the traditional style without cream. The thick fettuccine is cooked al dente with a noteworthy bite. The carbonara sauce is satisfying and comforting. Creamy and salty, infused with guanciale pork cheek drippings. You may want to order some bread to sop up the leftover sauce. I dipped my pizza crusts into the surplus.

The Cinque Formaggi and Noci (RM48) was a unique taste experience for me. It arrived with huge globs of ricotta and the right amount of walnuts for crunch. This pizza is not too salty or overwhelming. The mozzarella and silky ricotta balance the stronger flavours of the Grana Padano and intense bites of gorgonzola. If you love the sweet-and-salty mix on your tongue, there’s a small pot of honey on the side. It’s an interesting pie, but I do prefer the saltiness and more traditional taste of a salami or prosciutto pizza.

We finished our Italian feast with Sicilian Cannoli (RM20), which was the highlight of the meal. Two cannolis bursting with Ra-Ft’s homemade sweet ricotta and drizzled generously with chocolate sauce. The pastry is lightly crunchy, like a thick waffle cone that is lightly moistened with cream. It can handle being picked up, but it’s very delicate. When I bit into it, the cannoli broke apart awkwardly and there was some slurping of cream involved. It’s an indulgent dessert that is not too sweet.

Saturday Worthy?

Ra-Ft Osteria Nights mont kiara food review

I’ve wanted to try Ra-Ft’s Osteria Night for ages. The food was pretty good, but not mind-blowing. Everything we ordered was tasty enough to return for a future visit, though. We went on a Wednesday night, but perhaps the quality is better on peak nights like Friday and Saturday. Compared to other Italian restaurants in the city, a meal at Ra-Ft’s Osteria Night is more affordable. I don’t think it’s the best Italian food in Mont Kiara, but it’s one of the few restaurants that serves pork, and the central location is very convenient.
