Looking for naughty nyonya food? Lax Lax Restaurant and Bar at 1 Utama Shopping Centre takes typically pork-free favourites and gives them a porcine transformation. The Pork Lard Nasi Lemak with Crispy Skin Siuyuk (RM32) is their irresistible signature dish: fatty, juicy slices of pork belly, coconut rice with deep-fried chunks of pork lard and an onsen egg. Many Malaysian classics like satay, curry laksa and Hokkien Udon (RM27) have been reinvented to include the taboo ingredient. To really go the whole hog, Lax Lax serves alcohol and has a daily happy hour special. This restaurant is also pet-friendly, the first at 1 Utama. Thought that ricotta cheese was just for lasagna? Cotta is a hidden cafe in the Verve Shops on Jalan Kiara 5 with a ricotta heavy menu. The Chuck Mooris (RM28) and Pate-k Phillipe (RM27) combine the rich, creamy delicacy with umami explosions like slow cooked smoked beef and homemade chicken liver pate, respectively. They're a tasty, if not pricey, indulgence. A green oasis in the heart of KL! The rooftop garden at LaLaPort Bukit Bintang City Centre is the place to hang out with friends, have a picnic on the lawn, or even do some go-karting! Black Tap Craft Burgers and Shakes brings American gluttony to KL. Everything's bigger in America, especially the prices! A Black Tap burger costs up to RM84 - as much as a nice meal for two! Their lunch deal is much more affordable, with the All-American Burger at just RM29 with fries and a drink. Now that Mediya bakery is gone, workers at Plaza Mont Kiara can get their snack fix at the new Engi Patisserie, next to 76 Style. This modern Japanese cafe has European and Japanese style pastries like this Chocolate Banana Tart (RM18) and Bombolini (RM8). Is there anything more satisfying than a bowl of potatoes and cheese? Don't worry, there's salmon in there... for the HEALTH!
