DayOne DayOne Noodles, Sunway Velocity Mall

Sometimes a simple bowl of noodles is all you need.

Noodle restaurants in KL

DayOne DayOne serves up dry Taiwanese-style noodles and snacks in various locations across KL. These are not bowls stuffed with so many ingredients that you lose track of what’s supposed to be in them. DayOne only puts a handful of toppings so you can focus on what’s important – the noodles!

Ambience & Amenities

DayOne at Sunway Velocity is a brightly lit restaurant with a clean aesthetic. It’s usually busy, and there was a queue when we went for a weekend lunch. It was less than a ten-minute wait, but I’ve seen the queue much longer.

The nearest mall toilets are not far away. Exit the restaurant and turn left. There’s a corridor to the washrooms just past the McDonalds.

Menu at DayOne DayOne

If you’re not going to order noodles at DayOne, why bother? There’s a plethora of different meat to pair with the noodles and a choice of soft, normal or firm noodle “chew.” There are a few rice bowls, hot pot, and Japanese curry on DayOne’s menu, but you’ll probably miss out if you order those. Pork makes its way into many of the dishes, so DayOne is non-halal.

The Signature Braised Pork Chew Noodle (RM18.90) is perfect for small appetites. It’s a bowl of DayOne’s signature noodles with fatty pork bits and half an egg. The noodles in “normal chew” were springy and satisfying. However, I like a very firm noodle, so next time I think I’ll go for extra firmness. The noodles are handmade with quality, free-range eggs and high-gluten flour, which makes them more elastic.

The flavours were a bit forgettable as-is, so dumping the entire pot of chilli oil was a must to make the bowl more interesting. The Crispy Chicken Chop Chew Noodle (RM26.90) is the same meal as above but with a spicy fried chicken chop and mayonnaise for dipping. The chicken was crunchy and juicy, with only one bite of inedible gristle. A heartwarming bowl of soup and pickled cucumbers rounded out both meals.

Honey Scented Black Tea (RM17.90)

We’ve seen this chain around, but this was the first time we got a chance to try it. I like the simplicity of DayOne’s dishes. It allows the noodles to take the spotlight instead of being filler like they are at most other noodle restaurants. Usually, the bowl is overflowing with ingredients, there’s too much broth, and the broth is overly salty. That’s not the case at DayOne. For me, noodle texture is almost as important as taste. Overall, we were pleased with our meal and will visit again whenever we are in a noodle mood. There are mixed reviews on some of DayOne’s other locations, so your mileage may vary.
