This isn’t so much of a “shopping” mall as it is an “eating” mall!
KLGCC Mall is not the unattainable luxury experience I had thought it would be. With the prestigious Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club next door, I envisioned Dior boutiques and upscale steak restaurants. However, KLGCC Mall is an affordable indulgence – an upscale shopping and dining experience at a mid-range price.
KLGCC Mall Shuttle Service
KLGCC Mall organises two shuttle services that operate daily from 8 am to 11 pm. The first is a fixed-schedule van that goes from Semantan MRT entrance A to the mall. It runs every 40 minutes with an hour break for lunch (11:20 am – 12:20 pm) and dinner 8:20 pm – 9:20 pm). It costs RM2 per ride per pax.
If Semantan MRT is inconvenient for you to get to, there is also an “on-demand” KLGCC Mall shuttle that services the local area. This service extends as far as Shoplex Mont Kiara before heading down to Damansara Heights, then the KLGCC Resort. It similarly costs RM2 per ride and has an expected waiting time of 20 to 30 minutes. Bookings are done through the Kummute app, a Malaysian ride-pooling service.
Layout
KLGCC Mall is shaped like an upside-down triangle. Shops line the edge of the triangle, with the escalators and a handful of retail tenants in the centre atrium. Parking is on the lower ground floor (LGF). To enter the mall, there is a trolley escalator in the middle of the parking garage, and a pedestrian escalator next to Hometown Hainan Coffee.
Shopping at KLGCC Mall
There are six floors of retail tenants, starting on LGF and going up to 4F. The floors above the 4th consist of office space, gyms, a physio clinic and a ballet academy.
KLGCC Mall is not the place to shop for fashion and accessories. Currently, there are only four clothing outlets. None of them are the usual high street fashion brands that you see at other malls. This might be a positive thing, as you’ll be able to get unique pieces. The clothes were very conservative to suit Islamic modesty.
There are a small handful of housewares and tech shops. These will be recognisable names like Daiso, Ace Hardware, Xiaomi and Samsung. Meija was an interesting store, selling mid-range kitchenware, essential oils, and even real potted plants. It’s like a Kaison, but for people willing to spend a bit more money.
Kids might unexpectedly love the KLGCC Mall. There’s a huge Toys R Us store right next to Harbourland, a vast indoor playground. The Decathlon at KLGCC occupies a large retail space, but compared to other Decathlon locations in the city, this is small.
There isn’t much shopping to do among the health and beauty tenants, it’s just an AEON Wellness, an independent pharmacy and SKG (portable massagers). The category consists largely of spas and various clinics, but they are more specialised than the average options. There’s a Korean Headspa (Goyo), a women’s only spa (Lax Retreat), and a seitai clinic – the traditional Japanese practise involving stretching and light acupressure.
Food at KLGCC Mall
Food and beverages are king at KLGCC Mall, and the predominant category. The food court, “The Place,” is currently under construction but set to open on the 3rd floor soon.
Popular Damansara cafe Huckleberry has a bustling location with a patio next to the ground-floor entrance A. Mokky’s and Gula Cakery are two chains that I’m excited to see and will always try to stop in at if I have space in my stomach. With a few exceptions, most of the other restaurants are not names that you see in every other mall. Bad Scones, Em’s Cookies and Smith Bread & Cafe are good for a sweet snack. For a more substantial meal, try NakNak, Third Serving, or El Ocho Mexican Eatery.
The entire fourth floor is restaurants owned by the Serai Group. The eponymous Serai is up here, of course, along with Super Blonde, Brotani Juice and Taffy Gelato.
Washrooms
The washrooms are in the same spot on every level, in the northwest or northeast corners. 1F and 2F have family rooms where I saw sinks, changing tables, and armchairs. They also include a handy water dispenser to refill your reusable bottles.
I went to the toilets on almost every level, and they were always well-stocked and clean. The washrooms all had a similar style, with classy green Art Deco tiles behind the sinks and faux wood panelling covering the stalls.
From what I could tell, it was all sitting-style toilets. There didn’t seem to be any squat toilets in any of the facilities that I used. The only outlier was the facilities on the 4th floor at The Grounds of Serai. This outdoor washroom is a co-ed space with lush shrubbery stretching towards a skylight as the centrepiece.
Extras
Serai Hall
Don’t be surprised if one day in the future there’s a convention or a wedding to attend at Serai Hall. Pushed as the new landmark within KLGCC, this event hall features soaring ceilings and customisable layouts to suit occasions from corporate functions to birthday parties. The hall accommodates up to 350 guests, and catering is provided exclusively by Serai Group.
The Amphitheatre
The Amphitheatre is a rooftop patio with a panoramic view of the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club. It’s half a level above 4F, accessible via a short set of stairs next to Brotani Juice. As suggested by its name, there’s amphitheatre seating for people to enjoy the sun and the view.
Saturday Worthy?
KLGCC is one of those “lifestyle malls” whose main purpose is to serve residents with a grocery store, cafes and clinics. There isn’t much actual shopping to do at KLGCC Mall. This is primarily a place to dine at one of the many restaurants. If you’re in the mood to hang out and do several bouts of eating and snacking, then try visiting KLGCC Mall.
